Troy Backhouse designs a diverse range of 3d and 2d objects and environments including furniture and interiors through the clever use of different materials.
These skills are brought together through the combination of trade (signwriting) and university (BA Design) backgrounds often blurring the worlds of design and art.
The completion of a signwriting trade in Melbourne in 1992 was to form the basis of diverse manufacturing skills, material knowledge and fine artistic skills. in 1998 Troy ventured to London working on a variety of projects for clients such as Harrods, Belgos and The British Museum in the form of interior and exterior installations, signwriting and murals. A number of months were spent on restoration work at the British Museum and for Kings College Chapel.
On return to Australia, Troy completed a design degree at Monash University where he discovered his passion for furniture. Now all disciplines are brought together enabling him to come up with unique design solutions.
