Dreamt up in 2007, PrintDolls is a side-project formed when two friends discovered they shared a love for the art of typography.
Created by Alice Flynn & Marika Järv, the screen-printed artworks were a new adventure for the two founders, though both have extensive backgrounds in design. Alice Flynn: Bachelor Design [Interior]; works as an interior designer, while also a freelance stylist for magazines and events.
Marika Järv: Bachelor Architecture; after seven years with the respected architectural firm Stutchbury&Pape, nows runs her own solo practice Marika Järv Design.
The spark for PrintDolls was their first print ‘All Stops To… Palm Beach'. After discovering Alice had been seeking ways to reproduce an original for herself, Marika offered to recreate one as a belated wedding gift. During the process of design, the idea to personalise the artwork to their local area 'Avalon' emerged. It made sense to create an artwork with names they could instantly relate to. They both fell in love with the concept and imagined others would too....
PrintDolls was named after a thank you note Alice had given Marika; a plain white paperdoll-chain card.
