Tide Design was established in 2007 by the furniture designer and maker George Harper. George completed a Diploma of Furniture Design and Making at Box Hill Institute of Tafe that year, and was awarded the prize for best furniture at the graduate exhibition.
Throughout the course George found a particular resonance with 1950's design whereby the strict modernism of earlier years was softened and given a more organic feel. He also believes strongly in the importance of functionality and simplicity when designing, and in the role that detail provides in the overall aesthetic.
By following a career path in furniture design and making, George has been able to find a creative outlet through design whilst at the same time utilising practical problem solving skills when making each piece, two roles that he enjoys equally.
George's aim is to provide affordable, highest quality, handmade pieces where the design is considered, well resolved and individual, providing lasting appeal.
